I hope this big reveal doesn’t break the internet. I’m going to need that later.
In the last episode about “process,” I made a promise that I would reveal as much of the “podcast creation process” as possible this week. So that’s what this is all about.
I have a little deck of cards on my desk at all times called the Creative Whack Pack, created by the legendary (or Legend Dairy–Patent Pending) Roger von Oech. Back in college, I took a marketing class in which the whack pack was a required book (item?). Good call, sir professor.
The Creative Whack Pack is a deck of 64 cards, with each card containing a headline, a brief message/story/idea, and a small illustration. The cards are meant to give you a little *whack* on the side of the head to jolt your thinking, or “whack you out of habitual thought patterns and allow your to look at what you’re doing in a fresh way.”
For example:
For the past 2-3 weeks, I have been thinking of doing an episode simply called “Whack,” in which I discuss the concept of thinking of old things in new ways.
I picked up von Oech’s book, A Whack on the Side of the Head, a couple days ago. What an absolutely entertaining, thought-provoking book. In fact, it’s so thought-provoking, I decided to take the book slow, allowing myself time to absorb AMAP (As much as possible–I’m just trying to save time here).
So there you have it. Next week’s episode will be called “Whack.” Or possibly “Whack!” Depending on my mood trajectory.
